No AI rant

30/01/2023 rant

AI-generated images (or music, stories, or movies) are not Art. They are Theft. After months of ranting about this problem with whoever was so unlucky to be near me, many, many other artists raise their voices.

Tools like Midjourney, Laion, Wombo, Stablediffusion, and others, are using a lot of art from many artists without their permission (well, and pictures of you that you uploaded on the web or in some apps). No pay, no royalties. No honor, no effort. Yet, their users place a copyright on the result and call it their own creation. This is unfair and wrong.

🌳Actual AI systems fed to Machine Learning all the artwork published online, regardless of the copyright, the consent, or anything. My artwork was fed to the machine and I don’t agree. Pictures of people, of kids, were fed to the machine. Even medical records… everything. This is why AI Image Generation must be regulated. Other than this, there are people thinking themselves so clever to have discovered AI before you, finding easy ways to scam people and earn easy money with text prompts that a machine that fed on copyrighted material created. This is why I will annoy you with my opinion on AI-generated images. And music. And novels. And chatbots. This is not “the next step in the industrial revolution”: this is just an example of pettiness and mass stupidity, twisting an imperfect tool into something illegal just because it developed faster than LAW.

🚆 I know “we can’t stop this train”, and that it took 200 years of photography to create a law protecting non-consensual people from being photographed, but I’m not going to stop complaining.
Ai is wrong because it’s against humanity- both inherently, and as a weapon in the hands of evil and toxic people.
I’m still here and I love my art. This is why I feel the need to defend it, because this bs* happening is trying to make artists useless, like telling them to stop expressing their art (by filling the web with ai images and stealing people’s attention and time). Art exists to be expressed, but if ai generators fill the room with useless noise, no one can hear our voices. So, gagging us. And for what? Pettiness and laziness.
Today, AI is the nonconsensual use of art.
