“Crystal cave”, 5th new dragon of 2024, created during the #dragonary challenge. An old sketch (dating 2017? nvm), new pencil sketch, digital redraw and painting.
Revisiting old sketches always offers a lot of satisfaction – satisfaction to that artist from the past who would have liked to “do more” but wasn’t capable. As with many other paintings, I don’t consider this one “finished” yet.

🐲 A dragon on its nest, a protector. In the past I loved imagining him surrounded by “patryn runes” (those who have read the Deathgate Cycle books by Weis & Hickman will understand), while this year I preferred to choose a setting that, in my head, is even more rooted: a fantasy world, made of amethysts.
