Dragonlance Nexus sketches gallery

A series of colored sketches of people and creatures from all Krynn: the kender, the gnome, the half-kender, the irda, the half-ogre, the phaeton elf, bughbear, goblin, hobgoblin, ogre titan, hatori, spectral minions, dwarves, skrit… various artworks I painted for the Dragonlance Nexus and the Manual Tasslehoff’s pouches of Everything

THE KENDER – SKETCH

The kender: the eternal children of Krynn, or a band of thieves, depends on who you are talking about them. The free-spirited kender observe few boundaries and even fewer laws, getting on the wrong side of almost everyone they meet.

The kender

Tinker gnome

Tinker gnome – an inventor, a genius! In the Dragonlance setting, gnomes are the tinkerers of Krynn, designing grand machines for every imaginable task. Those things on his back look like wings, but, in truth, are supposed a very sophisticated antimosquito-device that – by accident – makes you fly.

The half-kender

While Kender are the children of Krynn, Half-Kender are the adolescents. Half-Kender always walk the line between the world of Kender and the world of humans, never quite fitting in to either world.

Half-kender

The irda

“The Irda are the precursor to what is known today as an “Ogre” on Krynn. At the creation of the Ogre race the Ogres were a beautiful race, as well as the only race besides the Elves that had a semblance of modern civilization.” (Source: DL Nexus)

The irda

Half-ogre

Half ogre as a playable character, an uncommon option with many possible in-game applications. Often outcast, sometimes brutal, a character with strenght and cunning… and always halfway between two different societies.

Half-ogre

Phaeton elf

“Phaeton elves” are a reclusive, mountain-dwelling people with distant relation to elves. Fleeing persecution during the Kinslayer Wars, they settled in the Khalkist Mountains inheriting fiery wings from Habbakuk.

Bugbear, Hobgoblin, Goblin

Bughbear, Hobgoblin & Goblin – the most classical foes of Dungeons and Dragons.
What color is the face of a hobgoblin? – Well, reading the lore i discovered their skin color can have many, many hues. From orange to yellow, from pale green to almost pink.
And a goblin? They’re little green/brown fiends.
Bugbears? FUR

Ogre titan

He’s giant. He’s blue. He’s not in a good mood. Friends, meet the Ogre Titan for the DL nexus!

“The ogre titans are a relatively new species of the ogre race in the Dragonlance Fandom. They were created by ogre-magi during the Age of Mortals. A titan is created by transforming a regular ogre, using a ritual which involves fresh elven blood. This ritual summons the spirits of dead creatures to aid in the transformation of the ogre. The ogre must sit in a cauldron of the elven blood whilst the entire ritual takes place. On completion of the ritual, the transformation takes effect immediately.” (Source: DL Nexus)

The Hatori

🏜 New portrait for a pretty Dragonlance monster from the northern deserts of Krynn! The HATORI, swimming through the sands.

“Hatori are distant relations of Dragons. They have rock-like hides and have the ability to swim through the desert sands, sinking and moving effortlessly under the surface.” (Source: link)

Ghost Minions

Do you remember Darken Woods?
Raistlin talking to the undead?
Meet the spectral minions! Incorporeal, forever tied to their past.

Spectral minions

The gates of Thorbardin

How to imagine the entrance to the kingdom below the mountain? The realm of the Mountain Dwarves?

Following the books lore, the entrance to the kingdom is supposed to be indistinguishable from the mountain face. Yet, such a large nation must have more than one entrances: this is why I imagined “this one” (perhaps destroyed after the Cataclysm?) as an almost official one, a monumental building you can spot only by walking a very secret path.

“Thorbardin is a dwarven nation located in southwestern Ansalon and is bordered by the nations of Qualinesti to the north, Plains of Dust to the east, and Kharolis to the south. The major geographical features of Thorbardin is the Kharolis Mountains which is most of the nation, the Plains of Dergoth which is a barren wasteland, the Urkhan Sea which is located inside of Thorbardin, and the Valley of Thanes.” (Source: DL wiki)

The Skrit

The skrit is a large magical arthropod creature from the cold deserts of Taladas. It is “similar in appearance to a flea” – apart from the fact that it’s more than two metres tall… like a prehistoric beetle.

Ed Mekeel, Dragonlance Nexus

I discovered Greenedera’s art through a Facebook group the Dragonlance Nexus hosts. The piece was clever and whimsical, but had a hardline fantasy feel making it perfect to be on the cover for the gaming book we were planning to release. After that, it made the most sense to commission art directly from Elena. Her work has passionate energy that made our book, Tasslehoff’s Pouches of Everything, more beautiful with the dozens of commissioned art pieces she created. I can’t recommend Elena enough! She is patient, great to work with, makes deadlines and her art…
