Illustration of gnomish inventors (Dragonlance fandom) busy with clockworks machines. Commissioned by the Dragonlance Nexus as internal illustration for the adventure manual “The Journals of Kaz the Minotaur – The lost colony” featuring a novel by Richard Knaak and a D&D 5th ed adventure.

Gnomes of Krynn are famous for their incredible minds, and the tradition of being unparallel inventors. Only, sometimes while they aim at a specific goal, they create something different.
“The Journals of Kaz the Minotaur” by Richard Knaak is a special project, which includes both a novel and an adventure for DnD 5th edition, where you can play an adventurer in first person and find yourself involved in the story.

If you ever wonder what these devices are (in my head):
- The big umbrella is designed after one of Leonardo Da Vinci’s creation. Of course the gnomes didn’t create it as an umbrella, but it’s a hat… It’s a big hat, so that it can cover multiple heads at the same time.
- The lizard-thing instead is a notebook: you can carve your notes on its back, and the thing will follow you around so that you always have your notes with you.
- The stove-thing is a pocket knife. Same concept: if your pockets are full, how do you carry around the knife? It’s much better if the knife can follow, walking, wherever you go.
- The flying thingy was supposed to be the the transmission chain of a new object called a bicycle, but since the idea was to make the bicycle fly, in the end only the chains and the saddle fly but … sitting on it is uncomfortable.
